Behaviour Consultations

Do you struggle with any of the below?

  • Aggression,
  • Separation issues,
  • Anxiety,
  • Fighting within the same household,
  • Reactive behaviour,
  • Resource guarding.

This is ideal for low key behavioural issues that could develop into more serious issues (separation related issues, mild anxiety, aggression or reactivity and possessive behaviour), or where there is only one clear isolated issue to discuss.

Whether a short or full consultation is required is at Laura Ward’s discretion.

Serious aggression, anxiety and reactive behaviour, multiple issues and cases where a thorough approach is required to look at the full picture of the development of behaviour problems and ongoing treatment.

-Veterinary referral only
-Report provided post consultation
-6 months email/phone aftercare support
-Follow up in person sessions £65

  1. After booking you will receive an email confirmation, a client questionnaire and an invoice (please allow a few days for this to come through).
  2. A video call to will be arranged via Zoom (30mins for short or 1.5 hrs for full) to discuss current concerns & history.
  3. The in person session will follow (1 hr for short or 1.5 hrs for full) at your home or an agreed public place.
  4. A Written report to you and your vet will be emailed within 7 days post consultation.
  5. Scheduled after care emails until you feel you are on the right track (up to 6 months) will be arranged, and in many cases in person follow up appointments (£65) will be arranged periodically depending on the level of continued supported needed.

The consultation will begin with a thorough history taking, and a discussion of your pets past and present, considering why the behaviour issues have developed. This process will examine the emotional drivers, how learning could have affected the development of the behaviour and health and dietary considerations to name but a few. Armed with theoretical knowledge of animal behaviour, neurobiology (i.e. how the brain and body works in relation to stress and emotion) and learning theory, in addition to over ten years of practical experience, Laura can move forward with a simple but effective plan to begin the journey of change.

After the consultation, Laura will write everything down in a report for you to help you remember the discussion, and share this information with others involved. Going forward, regular email contact is arranged and encouraged to help keep you on track, and follow up sessions can be arranged. Please note that behaviour modification takes time. Any human who has embarked on change, whether that be quitting smoking or working through a trauma, will agree with this. Sometimes simple changes can make an immediate difference, and sometimes this change will only happen with time and repetition.

For success, communication and commitment must be shown from both sides.

Veterinary referral – Behaviour cases are seen on veterinary referral only. After booking, Laura will contact your vet and request a referral. If your pet has not been seen for a long time, a health check will be required. The reason for this is to rule out any underlying pain or health issues and to open a dialogue with the vet should there need to be any contact between Laura and the vet regarding concerns or medication.

Insurance – Please check with your insurance company as they may cover the consultation fee and any follow ups, relevant veterinary checks and medication.
